Jean-Max Dussert studied at the CNSM in Paris where he won first prizes in clarinet and chamber music. He then began a third cycle and attended the aesthetics class. He perfected his skills with Guy Deplus and Yona Ettlinger.
Jean-Max Dussert divides his time between performing classical repertoire and creating: he was a founding member of the Ensemble Itinéraire (and the Experimental Chamber Music Group that was part of it), a soloist with the Groupe Instrumental de Paris (1985-2001) and the Ensemble Double-B. He also worked with many musicians and chamber music groups.
In 1998, he created “Carré – le partage des voix”, a small structure focused on creation (residency at the Centre National d’Art Contemporain “Le Magasin” in Grenoble from 1998 to 2004) in the company of close soloists: Ami Flammer (violin), Garth Knox (viola), Henri Demarquette (cello), Frédéric Stochl (double bass), Claire Désert (piano) and Benny Sluchin (trombone).
He collaborates on concerts or recordings with the ensembles: Intercontemporain, 2e2m, Musique vivante, Ars nova as well as with the research unit of IRCAM.

in Europe: London (Almeida, Southbank Centre), Huddersfield, Rome, Siena (Accademia musicale Chigiana), Turin, Ferrara, Barcelona (Nueva Musica), Lisbon, Berlin, Frankfurt, Vienna (Musikalische Sommer), Salzburg (Aspekte), Darmstadt (Ferienkurze), Automne de Varsovie…
or beyond: in Tokyo (Paris-Tokyo year) and in Puerto Rico.

Jean-Max Dussert gives a clarinet and chamber music course at the CRR of Boulogne-Billancourt and at the Pôle Supérieur d’Ile de France (PSPBB: Pôle Supérieur Paris-Boulogne-Billancourt). He has been a teacher at Mélodix since 2015.
